It is simple — home buyers want a perfect home. Dirty, cluttered homes raise questions. Questions that make potential buyers scared about purchasing your home for sale. Here are some of the comments I have had when showing homes:
- “If they haven’t cleaned the house in what looks like forever — what other things have been neglected?”
- “is all that dust ok on the heating unit?”
- “The owners SMOKE?!!!! We don’t want to see anymore”
- “The caulking on the bathtub is a mess, what else are they not maintaining?”
- “That toilet and bathtub are disgusting — we are going to have to redo that bathroom before we move in”
- “OMG the house smells of dog — I am never going to get rid that that smell”
- “Did they know we were coming? How can people live like this?”
- “What is that horrible smell?
- “What is that stain on the carpet?”
Trust me I get it. So if you are not the neatest person and you do not keep your house like Martha Stewart would then here are a few suggestions to make your home more appealing to potential home buyers:
First things first — get rid of everything that is unnecessary. Smells — you may not be able to smell what you live in, make sure your house smells at least clean. Don’t burn candles or over use air fresheners either. If you have carpeting, get it cleaned Make sure that there is no cobwebs or dust anywhere in your home. Ensure that all glass surfaces sparkle.
Bathroom –make sure that you have no signs of mold or mildew, if the caulking looks bad, replace it Fresh clean towels.
Kitchen –No dirty dishes in the sink. Floor freshly cleaned. Remove all clutter.
